How to use a file shelf with ToolKITZ

  1. Download ToolKITZ and open it.
  2. Drag a file from Finder, the desktop or any app to the very top of the screen. The drawer opens and you drop it on File Shelf.
  3. Switch apps, find your email or chat, then open the drawer (scroll down at the top edge, or ⌃⌥T) and drag the file out.

ToolKITZ keeps a reference to the file, so the original never moves unless you choose to. You can pick keep in place, copy or move.

Questions

Is there a free Yoink alternative for Mac?

Yes. ToolKITZ File Shelf is free with no time limit, and so are Clipboard (your last 25 clips) and Notes.

Does macOS have a built-in file shelf?

No. The closest built-in trick is dropping files on the desktop or in a Dock folder. A shelf app keeps them one gesture away without cluttering the desktop.

Does the shelf move or copy my files?

By default it keeps a reference and the original stays where it is. You can choose keep in place, copy or move.

How is ToolKITZ different from Dropover?

Dropover opens floating shelves where you shake the cursor. ToolKITZ keeps one shelf in a drawer at the top of the screen, next to your clipboard history, notes and other modules.

Which Macs does it run on?

macOS 26 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Try it next to what you use now.

Free to try, no time limit on the free modules. macOS 26 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
